Biography:

Chip Doherty is a member of the firm's Business/Finance and Real Estate Departments.

Mr. Doherty is a 1967 cum laude graduate of Amherst College, and received his law degree from Columbia University School of Law in 1973. He served in the U.S. Army, Intelligence Branch, from 1968 to 1971. He has been with the firm since 1973.

Much of Chip's practice is focused on representation of management in labor and employment law issues, including all aspects of management-union relationships and employment law counseling. Chip has served as labor counsel for many large local businesses and organizations, including hospitals, colleges, manufacturers and service providers. He also provides general employment law counseling in both union and non-union settings. Other aspects of Chip's practice cover a broad range of legal issues, including corporate and commercial real estate transactions, and administrative and local government matters.

Chip represents a number of substantial tax-exempt organizations and entities, including two business improvement districts in western Massachusetts and the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts, for which he has provided general counsel and canon law advice and services since 1982.

Chip volunteers with several community organizations and serves as a chancellor for the Episcopal Diocese.

Conducted investigations of employee misconduct for private and public employers.

Represented several church-related entities in internal clergy discipline matters.

Facilitated establishment of the first two business improvement districts in Massachusetts.
